The Seagull Project

This project will create a huge flock of gulls to reside around the dockside in a variety of venues. They will be herring gulls, black headed gulls and lesser black backed gulls. I am currently designing several models and will then go on to create patterns. The gulls will be able to be decorated by their makers and names will be chosen by those who fund them. Makers will receive a special stripy bird pattern designed by me as a thank you for helping.

Crochet Seagulls

There are 6 seagull workshops so far - these are taught as crochet and you must be able to do basic crochet sc in american dc crochet stitch. Read the details to see where to come and what to bring. Later there will be a knitting pattern to match.

At least 10 workshops and demonstrations will be run dockside to show the public how to make the gulls. The workshops will be held in a variety of venues including places like MShed, Underfall Yard, SS Great Britain, and it is hoped At Bristol, at events like festival of Nature and Dockside in a tent!

Participating workshops venues will receive their own gulls for display but there will also be a small flock who ascend in different places such as on top of the ferries or on board the Matthew or in Millennium square.

Other dockside businesses and attractions can secure a gull by donating £50 to the project.

An oversize postcard will be made with a tick list on the back so that families can go on a seagull hunt around the dockside. The oversize postcard will be available in a number of venues to raise funds towards the rest of the dockside projects.

Please just bring a small pair of scissors and a 3,25 crochet hook. I have some for sale if you don’t have one. Tension needs to be firm. You only need to be able to do sc ( American)/dc ( uk)crochet which is a small tight stitch suitable for the gulls.
