Community Embroidered Map Project
In spring 2016 I was approached by the Ashton Gatehouse in Bristol to see if they had any ideas about how they could engage people with the newely renovated historic landmark and increase knowledge of its whereabouts.
I suggested a community embroidered map. The project consisted of a 6 month programme of embroidery skills workshops and drop in session. Participants would also work on their contributions at home. The final stage involved tacking all the contributions to the fabric map and then adding detail and texture into all the open spaces in a series of drop in events.
The map can be seen at regular open days at the Gatehouse and during local arts trails. Visit Ashton Gatehouse
